We are excited to have some of the top health and fitness professionals from The Colorado Center for Health and Wellness and from around the country on board to share their knowledge and expertise as we tour the incredible facilities of the campus.
Dana Abbey is the Health Information Literacy Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, MidContinental region. She works to improve the public’s access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health. Dana is a Colorado native and her personal fitness goal in 2012 is to run 3,000 injury-free miles.
Adam Bordes, D.C. is Senior Health Strategist with the American Council on Exercise helping bridge the gap between the fitness community and the allied health professions, creating health and wellness information products for the consumer market, as well as helping fitness professionals build lucrative careers in the fitness industry. He is the author of the book Lighten Up, and the creator of the “DEPLOY” method of online business development.
Lisa Corbin, MD, the medical director for the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital since its inception in September 2001, specializes in non-medication approaches to treat illness and promote wellness. Corbin received her medical degree with honors and distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Corbin has a primary appointment as associate professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and a secondary appointment in General Internal Medicine. She also serves as the president of the AlterMed Research Foundation Board.
Janet Helm, MS, RD is a registered dietitian who has combined degrees in journalism and dietetics to create a unique career path as a nutrition communicator. Janet is the Chief Food and Nutrition Strategist in North America for Weber Shandwick, the author of the popular blog Nutrition Unplugged, and the founder of Nutrition Blog Network. She is a regular contributor to the Chicago Tribune and Cooking Light magazine and is a former media spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. For three years, she helped lead media training sessions for registered dietitians at the ADA Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo.
James O. Hill, PhD, executive director of The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center as well as professor of pediatrics and medicine and current director of the Center for Human Nutrition. Hill holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee and Master of Science and PhD degrees from the University of New Hampshire in physiological psychology. Previously, he served as chair of the first World Health Organization Consultation on Obesity and president of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, and was a member of the expert panel on obesity at the National Institutes of Health that developed the first U.S. guidelines for the treatment and prevention of obesity. He is also co-founder of America on the Move, which aims to inspire Americans to make small changes in how much they eat and move to prevent weight gain.
Iñigo San Millán, Ph.D., is the Director of the Exercise Physiology and Human Performance Lab at The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center. Dr. San Millán is also a faculty of Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He applies the latest tests, methodologies and approaches in Applied Exercise Physiology and Metabolism to help optimize the performance of athletes of all levels and sports. With more than 14 years of experience as an exercise physiologist and sports medicine advisor for many professional teams and elite athletes worldwide, Dr. San Millán is considered one of the top and most experienced applied physiologists in the world. Ted Vickey is Founder and President of FitWell LLC, a fitness management consulting company specializing in operations, design consulting and professional development to the fitness industry, government agencies, Fortune 1000 companies and the golf industry. Vickey is the former Executive Director of the White House Athletic Center under the Bush, Clinton and Bush administrations responsible for the health and fitness for the White House staff. In addition to his FitWell duties, he is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Council on Exercise.
Holly Wyatt, MD, associate director of The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, is a physician and clinical researcher at the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado Denver, School of Medicine. Wyatt has been the national program director for the Centers for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) since 1998. She received a National Service Research Award and a Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) from the National Institutes of Health to study energy metabolism and metabolic factors associated with weight loss in reduced-obese subjects. She is also the medical director of Colorado Weigh, a weight management program developed at The Center for Human Nutrition.
